The Real Time Canine II

After spending 2 years writing the Real Time Canine, the adventure continues with The Real Time Canine II. Read along as I look for just the right puppy to continue the experience. After false starts with Tim and Jed, I am currently training young Tam, and Spot, which are both off to a strong start. Please visit the RTC II to read about training sessions as they occur.

ASPCA Kicks Butt!

For the 2nd year in a row, the ASPCA is rewarding shelters for saving more lives with cash awards to be used to save even more, and all you have to do is vote. It costs nothing, so, for nothing more than a few minutes on the computer, you can potentially gift a hundred thousand dollars to the folks in the trenches of animal welfare. Everybody wins, especially dogs in need like this one...

Rescued by the ASPCA along with 349 others
The idea of the contest is to reward shelters that are the best of the best, and encourage other shelters to join those ranks. The first ever ASPCA $100K Challenge took place in 2010, aimed to help shelters save more lives in the short term and increase the potential to save many more in years to come. This is what the ASPCA has to say about this year's contest:
What's New in 2011?

The goals for the 2011 ASPCA $100K Challenge remain the same. Here's what's new in our second year:
•The ASPCA is offering $300,000 in prize money in 2011, including:
◦Largest increase in lives saved: The contestant that saves the largest number of additional cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies beyond the minimum 300 wins the $100,000 Grand Prize grant!
◦Second place: The contestant that saves the second largest number of additional cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies beyond the minimum 300 lives saved wins the $25,000 Second Place grant!
◦Largest increase in lives saved in each region: The contestant in each of five geographic regions that saves the largest number of additional cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies beyond the minimum 300 wins a $20,000 Best in Region grant.
•This year we're introducing a qualifying heat in order to help you get your community behind you right from the beginning of the Challenge. During the qualifying heat, your community members will vote online to send you to the Challenge. The 50 agencies with the most votes will be the official contestants in the 2011 Challenge.

We have a local California shelter in the running, and we are asking for your vote. Please visit this link, and click on the Ramona shelter in California to vote. The contest allows you to vote every day from now through the 15th of April, so please save the web page to your favorites, and vote every day, so we can send Ramona to the challenge. That's exactly what I am doing, and simply putting 5 minutes towards saving lives and animal welfare is a great way to start my day.
