The Real Time Canine II

After spending 2 years writing the Real Time Canine, the adventure continues with The Real Time Canine II. Read along as I look for just the right puppy to continue the experience. After false starts with Tim and Jed, I am currently training young Tam, and Spot, which are both off to a strong start. Please visit the RTC II to read about training sessions as they occur.

Day One

100 Degrees in the Mohave Desert

It was a long hot drive to the first of my dog trials. I got a late start, and got through Las Vegas about 6 O'clock. It was an even 100 degrees. My plan was to stay at my favorite KOA in Cedar City, and be in Huntsville, UT by noon today. So much for my plans.

Cedar City was still almost 90 degrees when I got in around midnight. I saw a decent, dirt parking spot across from the Loves Travel Center, and opted to sleep with the truckers instead of Paying $30 for the KOA. Good decision. I slept perfectly, and there was much more space to walk dogs.

Big alfalfa South of Cedar City

My trip up to Huntsville was slow, steep and windy, and there was road construction South of Salt Lake, which slowed me down. A 4 hour trip took 6, but here I am all set up, the dogs fed and walked, kicking back with a glass of cheap red wine. What can I tell you. I'm gone for 3 whole months, and I'm on a strict budget. I have good wine on board too that I won at Sonoma, and another bottle from Mandy, but I'm saving those for the special occasion when I win the Nationals...or  something like that.

I had a tremendous visit with the judge, Lyle Lad, just after I arrived. It would be hard to find a nicer, more competent judge, and holy moly can she run a dog. Did I just write holy moly?  We start at 7, and I'm running all 3 dogs, Mirk, Star and Mandy's Buff. I'll let you know how we do.

Oh I so wish I was there. I haven't being to a dog trial yet this yr. I look forward to drinking the wine when you win the Nationals.
