The Real Time Canine II

After spending 2 years writing the Real Time Canine, the adventure continues with The Real Time Canine II. Read along as I look for just the right puppy to continue the experience. After false starts with Tim and Jed, I am currently training young Tam, and Spot, which are both off to a strong start. Please visit the RTC II to read about training sessions as they occur.

A day in the life of Dexie

Dexter is happy. His expression is happy, his movements are happy, his demeanor and attitude are decidedly happy. I considered the view from his world, and, you know what? I'd be happy too. Here's a description of his typical day and the reason why:
7:30 am: Wake up and crawl from beneath the covers to a round of whole-body scratches, hugs, kisses and rough-house playing on the bed.

8am: Retrieve the big dogs from their kennels, joyfully jump all over Mirk, grabbing his rough and be carried along toward the horse corral to feed the horse and the sheep.
Stalk gophers and lizards. Follow big dogs around.

8:30am: Scitter across the boulders with the big dogs in the dog yard, barking madly while one of them puts the sheep out for the day. Stand still and stare at the WWLM (woman who loves me) when she calls me to come in to the house. Bat my ginormous brown eyes until she gently lifts me and carries me into the house for breakfast.

8:45am: Breakfast, hand-delivered in a silver bowl.

9:30am: Back outside to explore, hunt lizards and play, play, play with the big dogs while WWLM works in the garden.

11:30am: Be gently snuggled and carried inside for a snack, then snooze on the sheepskin while she works at her desk.

1:00pm: Click across the tile floor sounding like mice in the attic on the way out to run errands, then wait beneath the truck until she bends down to patiently retrieve me when I won't come out. Stretch out on my car-bed velcroe'd to the arm-rest surveying the world going by outside. Exchange loving glances with the WWLM and receive scratches throughout the trip.

4:00pm: Curl up on the couch in the bend of her knee while WWLM naps before work.

5:00pm: Back outside to feed, water, explore, stalk lizards and gophers and play, play, play with the big dogs.

6:00pm: Dinner hand-delivered in a silver bowl.

7:15pm: Get a snack in my crate, snooze and wait for WWLM to come home from work.

4:00am: Home!! She's Home! Jump, spin and run through the house towards a pre-dawn stroll with the big dogs.

4:15am: Dive under the covers and burrow down to the bottom of the bed. Curl up with a heavy sigh and sleep with the angels.
